Because we're founded by traders, we understand what traders want. We provide access to the world's most popular trading platform, MetaTrader 4, to trade a wide range of Forex , Commodities & Indices Tight spreads and fast execution come as standard on all our accounts and, for peace of mind, we operate within a secure and highly regulated environment. All forex trades involve two currencies because you're betting on the value of a currency against another. Think of EUR/USD, the most-traded currency pair in the world. EUR, the first currency in the pair, is the base, and USD, the second, is the counter. When you see a price quoted on your platform, that price is how much one euro is worth in US dollars. You always see two prices because one is the buy price and one is the sell. The difference between the two is the spread. When you click buy or sell, you are buying or selling the first currency in the pair.
A forward is a tailor-made contract: it can be for any amount of money and can settle on any date that's not a weekend or holiday. Transactions with maturities longer than a year are relatively unusual, but are possible. As in a spot transaction, funds are exchanged on the settlement date.
The gold standard was dropped around the beginning of World War 2 as major European countries did not have enough gold to support all the currency they were printing to pay for large military projects. Although the gold standard was ultimately dropped, the precious metal never lost its spot as the ultimate form of monetary value.
